XEROX DOCUMATE 252 DUPLEX SCANNER OFFERS WORKGROUPS ONE TOUCH SCANNING
Scanner Processes 50 ipm, Quickly Creates Searchable PDF Files and Includes Kofax VRS
PLEASANTON, CALIF. - March 3, 2004 - The Xerox DocuMate™ 252, announced today, is the first color sheetfed document scanner to scan 50 images per minute (ipm) in duplex mode and have the ability to automatically scan directly to searchable PDF - all for under $1000. According to published specifications, it performs at substantially faster speeds than comparable workgroup scanners and offers the highest level of image quality at a very competitive price. The DocuMate 252 also has one of the smallest footprints of any automatic document feed (ADF) scanner on the market.
The DocuMate 252 was designed specifically for desktop and departmental use and it is the newest addition to the Xerox DocuMate scanner family. The scanner includes "one touch" technology for ease of use and Kofax VirtualReScan™ (VRS) software for excellent image quality and optical character recognition (OCR) accuracy.

Enhanced with one touch technology, the DocuMate 252 allows users to easily set the destination of their scanned document by pressing a button and selecting one of nine pre-programmed (and user-customizable) scan settings. Destinations include scan to searchable PDF, scan to print, scan to archive, scan to network and scan to email.

The Xerox DocuMate 252 scanner is developed, marketed and supported by Visioneer, Inc., based on the trademark licensing agreement between the two companies announced last year.
The Xerox DocuMate 252 offers an optical resolution of 600 x 1200 dpi, 48-bit internal color, a hi-speed USB 2.0 interface (USB 1.1 compatible), and a suite of more than $800 in bundled software applications and utilities, including TWAIN and ISIS® certified drivers, Kofax VRS software, ScanSoft® PaperPort Pro 9 Office, ScanSoft OmniPage Pro 12, Pixel Translations QuickScan Version 3.0, and ArcSoft PhotoImpression 4.0. The scanner processes 25ppm/50ipm at 200 dpi monochrome and grayscale. The user-friendly 50-page capacity automatic document feeder can handle paper and photos from business cards up to legal-size documents.
The DocuMate 252 is the first duplex scanner for workgroups to bundle Kofax's award-winning VirtualReScan™ (VRS) 2.1 software, which improves image quality and increases overall efficiency of the scanning process for document management applications. VRS 2.1 provides such capabilities as autoexposure, autocropping and wide-angle deskew. VRS improves the accuracy of recognition software, thereby reducing the need for manual correction of problematic intelligent character recognition and/or OCR results.
The included software bundle allows users to automatically scan to searchable PDF with one touch technology. Searchable PDF maintains the visual integrity of the original document, with the text portions of the image converted via OCR for search purposes and stored in a separate layer. This allows for low-cost conversion from paper to PDF, while permitting easy distribution and an ability to search, link, select/copy and index the text.
PaperPort Pro 9 Office enables PDF files to be created from any Microsoft Windows application, without the need for additional PDF creation, editing or viewing software and OmniPage Pro 12 is a powerful productivity tool that delivers accurate and precise document conversion.
