Scanner Quickly and Easily Creates Searchable PDF Files and Includes Kofax VRS Software

PLEASANTON , CALIF. – Nov. 30, 2004 – The Xerox DocuMate™ 262, announced today, is the first color sheetfed document scanner to scan 66 images per minute (ipm) in duplex mode and have the ability to automatically scan documents into searchable PDF files – all for under $1,300. The DocuMate 262 was designed specifically for desktop use and incorporates One Touch technology for eliminating multiple steps in sending scanned documents to predetermined applications or devices. The scanner also includes Kofax VirtualReScan™ 3.5 software providing excellent image quality and superior optical character recognition accuracy.

The DocuMate 262 allows people to easily set the “destination” of their scanned documents by pressing a button and selecting one of nine pre-programmed (or user-customizable) scan settings. “Destination” examples include scan to searchable PDF, scan to print, scan to archive, scan to network, scan to OCR and scan to e-mail.

The Xerox DocuMate 262 processes 33ppm/66ipm at 200 dpi monochrome and grayscale . It also has one of the smallest footprints of any automatic document feed scanner on the market.

It offers an optical resolution of 600 x 1200 dpi, 48-bit internal color, a hi-speed USB 2.0 interface (USB 1.1 compatible), and a suite of more than $800 in bundled software applications and utilities. Those applications include TWAIN and ISIS ® certified drivers, Kofax VRS 3.5 software, ScanSoft ® PaperPort Pro Office, ScanSoft OmniPage Pro, Pixel Translations QuickScan Version 3.5, and ArcSoft PhotoImpression 5.0. The user-friendly 50-page capacity automatic document feeder can handle paper and photos from business cards up to legal-size documents.

Kofax’s award-winning VirtualReScan™ software improves image quality and increases overall efficiency of the scanning process for document management applications. KofaxVRSprovides such capabilities as autoexposure, autocropping and wide-angle deskew. It also improves the accuracy of recognition software, thereby reducing the need for manual correction of problematic intelligent character recognition and/or OCR results.

The included Scan-to-PDF software bundle allows people to automatically scan to image-over-text searchable PDF with One Touch technology. Searchable PDF maintains the visual integrity of the original document, with the text portions of the image converted via OCR for search purposes and stored in a separate layer. This allows for low-cost conversion from paper to PDF, while permitting easy distribution and an ability to search, link, select/copy and index the text.

ScanSoft’s PaperPort Pro Office enables PDF files to be created from any Microsoft Windows application, without the need for additional PDF creation, editing or viewing software. ScanSoft’s OmniPage Pro is a powerful optical character recognition productivity tool that delivers accurate and precise document conversion.
