Scanning Solution Saves Customs Inspectors Time, Money
Bermuda is a popular destination. About a third of the Bermuda Government’s revenue comes from travelers arriving by air or cruise ship. H.M. Customs Bermuda collects and protects this revenue. They do this through customs declaration forms travelers must complete before clearing immigration. Until recently, this was a slow, paper-based process. With more than 80 customs declaration forms per flight, the forms were stored offsite and required manual search and retrieval.
We developed a custom scanning solution using a Xerox® DocuMate® departmental scanner and Visioneer® OneTouch® software. Now crisp scans of declaration forms are consolidated into a single, searchable PDF for each flight. The scans are sent to a shared network destination that multiple users can easily access. This speeds up processes significantly so customs officials can spend more time collecting and protecting revenue.
