DM3220 Frequently Asked Questions

You have numerous options to begin scanning. Perhaps the easiest is to use Visioneer’s OneTouch software that comes free with each scanner. OneTouch runs a service on your computer to detect when a Xerox scanner has been connected and powered on. Once a scanner is detected, the OneTouch service automatically launches the OneTouch scanning software. You can open, and begin using, your OneTouch software by clicking on the OneTouch Icon in your Task Tray. Note that, depending on your desktop settings, it may be in the hidden icon section which can be accessed by the up arrow in the task tray. If it is hidden you can drag and drop it to the main task tray if desired.

If you right click the OT icon there is a quick reference guide to help get you started. Once you begin using the software there is a comprehensive help file to answer most common questions on how to use OneTouch.

If your scanner came with the PaperPort software and you chose to have it installed, you can launch the software from the Start Menu or by double clicking the PaperPort Icon on your desktop.

When PaperPort opens, you can use the Setup Wizard to select your scanner or manually select your scanner by following these steps:

Your scanner’s separation pad may need to be replaced. We recommend replacing every 15,000-30,000 scans but this could vary depending on the originals. During use, the pad on your scanner will slowly wear. Too much wearing can lead to mis-feeds and double feeds as paper travels through the scanner. Sometimes a good cleaning can resolve many paper handling issues as well. The best way to clean the scanner is to use a properly treated alcohol pad to wipe the pad clean and to blow out the inside of the scanner with compresses air to remove any dust or paper particles. Please refer to your manual for instructions on cleaning your scanner. If a cleaning or replacing the pad does not solve the problem please contact our technical support department for further help.

Note: If you are scanning a large amount of carbonless paper (two-copy forms which allow pressure on the top form to carry through to the bottom form) your scanner will need a more frequent and more in-depth cleaning and pads may wear considerably faster. Cleaning carbonless-paper residue (dry-ink particles) may require specialized cleaning instructions. Please contact our technical support group for help.

Yes, your scanner maintains three counters. Two of these counters can be reset (like a trip meter) and one which cannot (like an odometer). The counters can be used to track scans between cleaning and pad replacements. There are multiple ways to access these counters. One way is from the scanner’s Device settings tab. This tab can be accessed by right clicking on the scanner’s icon in the Windows Device Page and selecting Scan properties from the menu.

You can also find this information in the scanner’s TWAIN driver User Interface Window.

Make sure to enable the advanced view of the driver window by selecting it in the Basic/Advanced drop down found in the upper right corner of the user-interface. Next, make sure to select the DM3220 tab in the Driver Configuration settings (Wrench and Gear icon). You will see the three counters there, two of which have a reset button.

Yes. When using our DriverPLUS TWAIN driver or the Visioneer OneTouch software you can enable what we call Job Building by turning on Manual feed mode.

If you are using OneTouch to scan then you will need to enable the Manual Feed in the OneTouch Scan Configuration Window under the Page Settings tab. The timeout is the amount of time the scanner will wait for additional paper to be scanned from the ADF before completing the scan job.

If you are not using OneTouch to scan then this needs to be set in the scanner's TWAIN driver user-interface. Simply click the Manual Feed box on the driver’s Document Settings tab. The timeout is the amount of time the scanner will wait for additional paper to be scanned from the ADF before completing the scan job. If, while using job building, you want to force the scan session to complete before the timer runs out simply click the Abort button to end the scan session and create your document.

We do release driver updates from time to time to introduce new features and correct any issues that may have been found in previous versions. You can check the drivers and manuals link below the FAQ link on this page.

To see if you should upgrade, first check your current driver's version.

Yes. The TWAIN driver is Windows 8.X certified.

Unfortunately we do not currently offer a Mac compatible driver for the DM3220.

Unfortunately we do not currently offer any Linux compatible drivers for the DM 3220.

Yes both the OneTouch software and PaperPort software allow you to create searchable PDFs from scanned images. In the Select Format section of the One Touch Properties Window make sure the right-most icon is set to sPDF. You can change the setting by right-clicking the icon and selecting searchable PDF. If the sPDF selection is not available make sure your scan destination supports sPDF format. Both the PaperPort and Transfer to Storage destinations support the sPDF format.

Acuity is Visioneer’s Image Processing and Enhancing software. It comes free with all DocuMate scanners. The Acuity software is a plug in for the OneTouch software and the TWAIN DriverPLUS. When installed and enabled it allows scanned documents to have various processes applied prior to storing or viewing an image. Some of the processes perform functions such as automatic original size detection, de-speckling, remove blank pages, skew removal, auto rotation, background removal, text enhancement and a host of others. While not needed, we strongly recommend installing and using the Acuity software for optimal image appearance.

The 3220 has a curved paper path on the ADF and cannot handle rigid cards. We recommend using the flatbed of the DM 3220 for items like business cards, rigid I.D. cards and delicate items.

No the DM 3220 does not have built-in wireless connectivity. It connects directly to a PC. However, when scanning to your PC you can choose any network destination (wireless or wired) on that PC as a storage location for scanned images.
